Hand
and Foot Treatments
-Tips for Good Skin Care
Guidelines in basic manicure and pedicure
treatment
Set up the manicure equipment needed:
• A small bowl to soak the hands
• A small hand towel
• Cotton pads
• Antiseptic spray
• Nail polish remover
• Cuticle massage cream
• Cuticle remover
• Nail file orange stick
• Nail buffer
• Cuticle tools nail clippers
• Exfoliant, if necessary
• Base- and top-coat nail polish
Most of this equipment is used in pedicure
treatments, however, additional equipment
includes:
• A large bowl to soak the feet
• A pedicure paddle
• A bath towel for use as a mat
• A bath towel to dry the feet
Before beginning the pedicure, it is important
to determine the preferred nail shape with
the client.
• Remove polish if required
• Clip and file the nails
• Apply cuticle cream – this helps hydrate
and nourish the cuticle
• Soak the hands and feet
• Apply cuticle remover – this will remove
any dead skin around the nail
• Gently push cuticles back
• Buff the nails – this will remove any
discolouration and help smooth out ridges
In the pedicure treatment, the pedicure
paddle is used to remove any excess skin.
• Apply the exfoliant – a sugar or salt
scrub are extremely beneficial leaving the
hands and feet soft and rejuvenated.
• Apply lotion cream and massage hands and
feet for about five minutes until moisturiser
is absorbed
• Remove any excess oil from the nail plate
and begin to paint
• A base coat is essential as this prevents
the nails from discolouring
• Choose a colour that best suits the client
• Apply two coats – this gives a better
coverage
• Apply top coat – this makes the nails
shiny and makes the polish stay on longer.
Before beginning the manicure, keep in
mind the shape of the hands, length of the
fingers and shape of the cuticles, and the
occupation of the client.
